Tech Wizards: Social Media Handbook (website)
Why this artifact?
I designed this website as a social media handbook. The goal of the website is to help kids, families, librarians, and educators access information on social media. This information includes topics such as digital citizenship, online safety, and my social media blog. In addition to sharing resources, I also designed resources for this website, such as a social media consent form, terms of service infographic, and tech wizard scavenger hunt. The website serves as a resource guide, tool, and handbook for navigating social media. In other words, it's a resource for accessing information on a form of information (i.e. social media).
Outcome 3b
Utilize resources or tools to manage information.

Artifact
Why this artifact?
For my descriptive cataloging exam in LIS 703, I created a Simple Dublin Core XML document for a photograph, as well as MARC records for books. Simple Dublin Core and MARC are tools for managing information by describing and documenting metadata, making this information accessible to people, computers, and libraries. A library catalog, which consists of MARC records, is a resource for library staff and library patrons to manage all the information available at a given library. To make the Dublin Core XML Document, I used the resource of the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set and the tool of Oxygen XML Editor. To make the MARC Record, I used the resource of OCLC's Bibliographic Formats and Standards. I also used the resource of MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data for fixed field codes such as countries and languages. For tools, used the MARC Record template provided by my professor. If I were to create a MARC record at my library, I'd use the tool of Sierra. Lastly, I used class resources, such as PowerPoint presentations and notes, to make each record and to successfully complete my descriptive cataloging exam.
Outcome 3c
Evaluate resources or tools that manage and facilitate access to information.

Service Evaluation Plan (PDF)
Why this artifact?
I created this service evaluation plan to evaluate Oak Park Public Library's Rainbow Services. I conducted a literature review, exploring reference evaluations at other libraries to create a service evaluation plan for OPPL's Chat with Hal reference feature. Rainbow Services is a resource for LGBTQ+ community members and advocates. Meanwhile, Chat with Hal is a reference tool accessible to patrons and community members. Rainbow Services and Chat with Hal facilitate access to information on LGBTQ+ literature and LGBTQ+ resources. For my service evaluation plan, I explore the inquiry question, "After utilizing the Chat with Hal reference service, do patrons report increased competence in LGBTQ+ identity, culture, and/or history?" To answer this question, I take a summative approach. I propose collecting qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate Chat with Hal's learning outcomes. I include specific tools to conduct this evaluation, such as interviews and surveys. I also include specific examples, such as potential survey questions to collect the necessary data to successfully evaluate this reference service. I believe that my evaluation plan provides a thorough approach to evaluating Chat with Hal, providing concrete methods to improve this reference service for the betterment of the library and the community.
